Stephen Decatur Rose Society Presentation

Stephen Decatur Rose Society

On Monday this week, I was incredibly honored to be asked to speak at the Stephen Decatur Rose Society meeting. Actually, they wanted to be sure I was free so they asked me if I would be free to speak way back in January. I’ve given presentations to 8th graders, high school students, and other photographers, but I’d never done a presentation for a group of gardeners before. I decided to go through all my slides and try to really create something custom tailored to what they were hoping to learn.

I was really grateful for the firemen who let us use their meeting room and helped me get my computer set up. And the club members were super attentive – it was AWESOME! They had thoughtful questions and wanted to better understand their cameras and how they worked which was fantastic to be a part of. I stayed through the meeting too and it was lovely hearing what this wonderful club is doing and the events they have coming up. They even had me stay for a snack and we chatted a bit after which was great.

I had no idea Decatur had a group specific to the care, cultivation, identification, and quality of roses. It was really fascinating to hear about identifying flowers in old photographs of the Staley Museum. Or how many varieties of roses they have at their homes! Even though I do not have a great gift for gardening – I would love to one day be better at it, and it was truly a blast listening to the conversation. They even had me stay for a snack and we chatted a bit after which was great.
