Why I Love My Wall Portraits

There are so many different photographers out there and they all provide a unique product for their clients. I try to offer enough variety that everyone can find something they love, but I first and foremost want my clients to have portraits they love and can enjoy everyday in whatever form they prefer!

Over the past 6 years Ryan and I have been married I have created updated albums for my little family every year. I love these little momentos of our time together and our evolving family. They are among my most cherished possessions. But this year with the new home we decided to make the investment and hang some portraits of our family on the walls. This is the first time in 6 years we had the means to invest in something like this or the space to hang something. So needless to say – I was very excited.

So we made the decisions – which portraits to hang, what sizes, what frames. All those decisions that can be super stressful, but made way easier with our ordering software that let us see our choices on the wall before we ever made the purchase. I gotta be honest – I was excited about the idea of having portraits on the walls. I was excited when the prints arrived and then again when I got them all installed into the frames. But the minute those portraits were hanging on our wall, something happened… It’s weird. Our house just suddenly felt like a home.

There is something about having these little moments, these pieces of our family hanging on our walls. I sit on my couch and look up at these photographs and I just feel a sense of calm wash over me. When I walk into the house carrying in my groceries and look over across the room – and I see my sweet husband and my crazy pups, it makes me smile. It’s crazy how these little things make such a big difference, and I’m not saying that to pressure anyone into buying big wall portraits. If you’re a client of mine – you know my biggest priority is helping you get what you want whether that’s simple gift prints, wall art, and album or digital files.

My point is mainly this – I didn’t realize what a huge impact professional portraits would have on the feeling I have in my home. Sure – I thought they’d be nice, but I didn’t realize how happy they’d make me. And I’ve got to be honest – it’s nice having them on the wall where I can see them everyday rather than just sitting on my computer taking up space. So if you’re planning on scheduling a family session in the near future – I’d encourage you to really consider what you want to do with your portraits after your session is over. I love my annual family albums – but I realize now these portraits are big, present, daily reminders of how very blessed I am. And I hope that your portraits will have the same impact on you too!
