What to Wear: Senior Guys

What to Wear: Senior Guys

I figured we’d kick into senior portrait season by talking about some fun looks for guys! Girls have so many fun options with clothes and hair and accessories and sometimes you poor guys get neglected. Just because you’re a dude doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and create a session totally unique to you! So I went through our senior studs from last year to share some cool style tips with all of you! Though admittedly you guys are probably a lot cooler than me. 😉

The Polo Look
Polos have long been a dressy-casual staple in male wardrobe, and they are definitely a good option for your senior portraits. Start with a t-shirt and throw a polo on top to mix up your look and create some variety. And you have a lot of choices with your polo style too! Solid colors, patterns, long or short sleeves. Just choose one that feels like the most like you (or that brings out your eyes).

The Button Down
This look is probably one of my favorites, and it seems like it’s one of my guys’ favorites too. It’s an easy transition from a casual t-shirt. Because if you pick the right t-shirt – oftentimes you can put your button down shirt right over top. Plus, you have a lot of options here. You can do a solid color, a pattern, or a plaid. You can button it all the way up, not button at all, or button most of the way up. It’s a nice look for in between casual and super dressed up so it makes it a really nice option for another look.

The Classy Dude
So this look could be a few different things. It could be a nice knit sweater. (I’ve got a couple of those pictured here.) It could be a nice blazer. Or you could go all out and throw on a suit. Think of this as your Sunday best look… or the dress to impress look. If you’re not a suit guy – then definitely don’t go that route. But occasionally I’ll have a senior come in who loves a nice tailored jacket and it’s super fun to photograph that too!

The Suave Sweater
Nice knit sweaters are a great dressy option for senior guys. It adds a touch of class while still feeling really comfortable. If you’re scheduling your senior session in the fall – this is a great look since it match the feel of the season and keep you warm too! Knit sweaters come in a lot of options as well – solid colors, stripes, pullover or zip up. It’s hard to go wrong!

Sports
Most of my senior guys are involved in at least one sport. And they are usually really passionate about that one sport. So of course, I believe that should be highlighted in your session. Whether you wear your uniform or not – there are a lot of different ways to portray your passion and dedication to your athletic game of choice!

Vehicles, Props, & Pets
Last but not least personal touches! I have a lot of guys who are really proud of their cars. Whether it’s a car you’ve done a lot of work on or a pick up truck you and your friends drive around in, if it’s important to you – we should definitely include it in your portraits! And of course we should include beloved pets, music instruments, or pieces of your passion in your senior portraits!

Props, Pets, Loves

Alright guys – I hope this What to Wear post has been helpful for you! As always – I help all of my clients figure out what to bring or wear. So don’t stress about it. Just be yourself and focus on having fun!
