New Fine Art Series: Growth
As you know I’ve been having fun with my latest Fine Art series, which is a self portrait series dealing with emotions or traits like hope, strength, growth, sorrow, anger, etc… I was inspired by one of my favorite fine art photographers, Brooke Shaden, to explore this world of fine art composite photography. You can see all of my previous Fine Art work on the journal here.
I actually started working on this image back in June of this year when the fields were still green and growing. I loved this idea of the seasons and how every year these fields are planted with seeds and every year these seeds grow into these tall and massive plants. It’s much like our life… Every year little seeds of knowledge are planted in our minds and every year we grow and flourish. So for me – the fields outside our home were the perfect place for this image inspired by growth!
For this particular shoot, we simply headed out to the field across the street. I had my hubby man the camera for this session, getting everything set up for him so all he had to do was push the button. This particular art piece is a composite of eight individual images. I composited about 3-5 segments together to create the dress, plus adding the sleeves. The hair was an additional piece, and I also added extra corn to the background and horizon.
It took me a lot of work with Photoshop to get this image to look the way I was envisioning. I really wanted the dress to flow and blend into the fields. And that took me a several sessions of working with it to get it where I liked. It was a lot of fun building this piece layer by layer, taking my time until I got it right. And I’m actually incredibly happy with the result!
Here’s a little peek at my process:Here’s a quick little animation of each layer as it was built:
And the final image:
So there you have it! Another completed Fine Art Piece in my latest series! As I always say – it’s been a ton of fun watching this project unfold and I’m looking forward to create the next piece! Let me know you think! I’d love to hear from you!
