RCC 8th Grade Career Fair Day 1

At this point I’ve lost track of how many years I’ve gotten to come back and participate in the 8th Grade Career Fair at Richland Community College. It is definitely something that I look forward to every year though and this year was no different!

I try to make the talk I give these awesome guys and gals fun but still educational. I usually talk about how I came to decide on my career because as a kid I really didn’t know. There were so many choices and with two parents in science based fields – I didn’t know what I could do with art. I also like to share with them about classes they’ll be taking in the upcoming years that I use in my job still now. And since all my days are different – instead I shared with them the steps I take for each of my clients start to finish. I try to be honest and share the pros and cons of being a photographer too.  Overall I hope they all had fun and were entertained by my weirdness 😉

I got to talk to five different groups the two days I participated which means I spoke to 1o groups total. I’m not sure how many kids that was… maybe 10-12 per group so maybe about 100. But it was a lot of fun this year. They had some great questions and were really attentive. And I genuinely wish I could have done all four days this year. I’m sure the groups will have fun today and tomorrow with whoever will be speaking to them about photography.

Here’s a little peek at the first group I got to talk to – there are some super fun and talented people in this picture!
