FotoChaos – Photography Conference

October 17, 2012

It’s been a couple weekends ago that I headed out of town for a photography conference in Missouri. Every year I am constantly educating myself and working to improve my skills, business, and service. This year I was lucky enough to be invited to attend FotoChaos with my good friend Sarah of Sarah Jane Photography. I’ll be honest – I’m a bit of a nut and I had never driven so far by myself before so I was quite proud of myself for making the five and a half hour trip to TanTarA Resort at Lake of the Ozarks. It was two days jam-packed full of educational lectures and shooting sessions. I’m a nerd so I spent the bulk of the time listening to a bunch of amazing photographers share their knowledge. I often think that the way I feel at these conferences is probably how a fan girl would feel hanging out with the cast of their favorite movie or show. Yeah – I’m that big of a photography nerd.

They had so many awesome photographers and so many speaking and shooting all at the same time that it made it really hard to decide who to listen to, but I was thoroughly pleased and impressed with all those who’s classes I was able to attend. David and Whitney Scott had a huge impact on me with their classes as did Dawn Shields, Damon Tucci, and Jessica Edwards. And they were all so sweet and kind and willing to listen and give advice to all of us! It was truly a wonderful trip.

I did manage to squeeze in one shooting class. Since my friend Sarah was teaching I wanted to attend her shooting class, and I thought I’d mix things up and do something totally out of character for me. I attended her boudoir shooting class. Now if you know me you know that I’m a giant geek – sexiness isn’t my strong point. So I went into this class planning on supporting my friend and trying something new different. Sarah did a great job talking everyone through her thought process and how she does a typical boudoir session. (And of course she used my macro lens for a bunch of her photos 😉 ) All in all I’m proud of the shots I got, but I think I’ll leave boudoir to the pros who rock at it… Here’s just a little peek into Sarah’s class at FotoChaos Conference.

I’m really thankful to have found such an awesome friend in Sarah! She’s been a huge support to me the past year that we’ve spent getting to know one another. I consider myself very lucky to count her among my friends. (Don’t forget me when you’re famous Sarah!) I hope you’re all having a wonderful Wednesday and I’ll see you back here on Friday!
