Slow Season and the What-Ifs

February 16, 2011

This is a slow time of year for me with work. The summer and fall usually end up being very busy with senior photos and weddings. But once winter hits and the weather cools off and nature’s backdrop turns more brown and unappealing, the phone calls for sessions slow down. It’s just a natural and expected chain of events.

For the first month or so it’s really nice. I usually start slowing down near the end of November beginning of December, which is perfect because I start focusing on the holidays and family. Then January rolls around and I’m still doing okay because I start getting into a cleaning and organization mindset. But about half way through January, the “What-Ifs” start creeping in:

What if the phone doesn’t ring? What if I don’t get any sessions this year? What if people don’t like the changes I’ve made? What if I lose my old clients? What if I don’t get any new ones? What if, what if, what if, …

I’m not a fan of the “What-Ifs”. They’re such a downer and I try my darnedest to be positive. So instead of dwelling on those annoying little worries, I’m choosing to trust myself, my clients, and God that this year is going to be another amazing year full of wonderful people that I will get to take pictures of.

I’m also keeping myself busy with some personal projects. I’m not quite ready to go into any specifics yet. At this point, they are more just ideas and not actions. We’ll just have to see what happens with them.

And because every post is better with a picture, here’s a photo of our snowy yard after the blizzard hit.

Winter Wonderland

Happy Wednesday
