Showing Some Love: Podcasts

Showing Some Love: Podcasts

I used to do these Showin’ Some Love posts all the time, but then other things would come up and they’d get pushed to the back burner. So I think it’s high time I brought back another post on things I’m currently loving! Today I want to focus on Podcasts!

I’m a big fan of podcasts these days. I actually end up spending quite a bit of time in my car. Every time I drive to Decatur it’s 45 minutes one way – so that gives me a total of 90 minutes I can use to listen to podcasts. I am actually subscribed to several, but there are really only three that I absolutely love and look forward to listening to every week. So instead of sharing all of them, I’m just going to focus on these three.

Mosaic
If you’ve been here for a while you know I love Jesus and try to have an active relationship with him. In addition to going to my own church every Sunday, I look forward to every time Mosaic (a church in LA) puts out their podcast. I like the way the pastor, Erwin McManus, thinks and I love his honesty and vulnerability when he shares aspects of his own life. I think churches need more of this… honesty, vulnerability, and openness about the hard stuff. He always has really amazing points. Things that hit me in my core. That make me think. And that’s what I want when it comes to my spirituality – I want painful truths that challenge me to be a better person. So the Mosaic podcast is definitely one of my favorites.

Dear Hank & John
I’m pretty sure this podcast is the actual reason I started listening to podcasts. I’ve got mad love for the vlogbrothers, John and Hank Green. I love their YouTube channel, the things they are trying to do and the positive impact they are trying to leave on the world. I just think it’s an awesome thing. I also love that they’re nerdy like me. And I’ve jokingly told Ryan I feel like my brain thinks like both John and Hank so I can relate to both of them. Their podcast is fun, goofy, and also full of interesting facts. And I love expanding my mind so that definitely makes it a favorite for me!

Mental Illness Happy Hour
This is actually my most recent podcast addition and it’s honestly probably not for everyone. I’ve always had a deep love for psychology… mainly because I care deeply about people. I don’t know how to love in halves (I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before). I feel like there are so many people in the world suffering or hurting from different things. And if I can just learn more about other people’s lives, perspectives, and experiences… maybe I can be more compassionate, understanding, and helpful to others. This podcast involves interviews with various people who struggle with a variety of mental illnesses as well as survey responses from listeners. I’ve learned about so many things I didn’t know were “things” and I’ve gained insight into experiences and perspectives I would have never had otherwise. It’s definitely not for people who want a feel good podcast or something that’s easy to listen to because they do talk about very heavy issues. But I feel like I’ve learned a lot and I hope it will help me continue to grow as an individual.

So there you have it! Three of my favorite podcasts! Do you listen to any of these too? Or what is your favorite? I’d love to hear yours! Just leave me a comment below!
