Behind the Scenes: Baylee’s Your Story Project Shoot

Baylee's Your Story Project Piece

For the last several weeks I’ve been sharing my fine art work from my second series with all of you. But I haven’t quit working on the first series either. You may recall  The Your Story Project, a collaborative creative project where I work together with the subject of the piece to create a piece of art that visually portrays their own personal story. I’ve currently done four in this series, including one for myself entitled “The Girls Who Gave Too Much,” one for my hubby “The Man with a Million Ideas,” one for my best friend Erin, “The Girl Who Was Really a Dude,” and one for Brittany, “The Girl Immobilized by Worry.” I’ve really enjoyed working on each one of these so I was super excited when Baylee messaged me saying that she had an idea for her Your Story Project session.

Baylee had tossed around a few ideas since earlier this year for her piece but she finally settled on the idea of “city glamour in the country.” She sent me a picture of the dress she was planning on wearing and I went from there. As always the first thing I do is start brainstorming and sketching. I started off making a list of emotions. The previous pieces I created started with an emotional idea and we visually expanded on it. But Baylee’s idea started with a visual concept that needed an emotional tie in. So I tried to think of what this city girl might feel stuck in the country… she might feel lonely, like she doesn’t fit in, wanting to escape, etc… And then I used the ideas of how she might feel to create sketches for what we might work with. I showed my sketches to Baylee and explained what I was thinking for each one to see what she liked and then we started working.

We shot all of Baylee’s in the home-studio. I had not found the right location yet and I knew that I could easily drop her in later if necessary. So for now – all I have is beautiful miss Baylee all dressed up and ready to drop in when I get the other pieces I needed to create her finished piece. She was such a sport though dealing with the crazy way I create these pieces to get the look I want. I’m really excited about putting the whole thing together in the near future!

As you guys know, I’m not going to reveal the finished Your Story Project piece today since I’m hoping to have a big unveiling of all the Your Story Pieces in the future, but I would like to show you a little peek behind the scenes of Baylee’s Your Story Project shoot. So here’s a little glimpse at how we set up for her session!
