Why Did I…?
A couple weeks ago, someone asked a question: “Why did you get into photography in the first place?” I thought it was an interesting question and one worth really thinking about. So I’ve been reminiscing and contemplating about where and why I started this crazy journey into creating my own photography business.
So many photographers will say that they’ve always loved taking pictures and that since they were a small child they could be seen with camera in hand. But for me the reason is deeper than just because I’ve always loved being able to use my camera to capture a moment exactly as it was. It’s about the people… it’s about helping them remember a moment, helping them to see just how beautiful they are.
I think it’s sad how so many people (girls in particular) can’t see how gorgeous they are. They get caught up in what society says they should look like and they focus on the negatives about themselves, and forget to notice all the beautiful things about them too. For me, each session is about more than just capturing pictures. It’s about helping people see what I see in them, making them feel better about themselves, and celebrating their life and relationships in as authentic a way as possible. One of the best feelings for me is when someone walks into my studio nervous and uncomfortable and at the end of the session is smiling and has a new bounce in his/her step.
And that’s what I want to focus on with my sessions. They aren’t just about providing you with pictures; they’re about creating an experience that reminds you how awesome you are or rekindles the way you felt about your husband when you first started dating or celebrates the relationships within your family. Because really…. aren’t those the things that matter most in life? Aren’t those the things that make you happiest? How you feel about yourself and the love you have for others?
I’m looking forward to incorporating this more strongly into my business in the near future. So keep your eyes open for updates on this. For now – here’s a teaser from Andrea & RC’s engagement session. Happy Monday!
