The Day Our Lives Changed…

October 12, 2011

This past Monday morning, October 10, was an interesting day for us. It’s a day that has changed our lives completely.

It was around 4:30 in the morning, Ryan and I were in bed, when I heard a sound out in the kitchen. At first I thought it was someone in our house going through our things, rifling through papers, but I quickly realized that was not what I was hearing at all. Fire! There was a fire! A big one licking through our kitchen door. I woke Ryan up, we grabbed our clothes, the dog and our phones and made a dash for the front door.

By the time we got outside their was such thick smoke pouring out the front door that there was no hope to go back inside for anything. The fire departement arrived promptly (though at the time it felt like they weren’t getting here fast enough). Ryan, Kit, and I sat in the back corner of our yard just holding on to one another and watching our home and everything in it burn away.

You don’t realize how much you use on a daily basis until you have nothing. Our driver’s licenses, debit cards, credit cards, car keys, clothes, shoes, toothpast, hair brush, contacts… it’s all gone. We’ve spent the past few days getting our IDs and the bare essentials until we know what’s next. I have a strange feeling it’s going to be an exhausting few weeks/months.

I want you all to know that your official images (the retouched ones) are all safe. I was lucky and had just finished uploading all my recent sessions to my online hosting site on Friday. And the insurance company is working with us so I should have my camera equipment available to me before this weekend (so none of my brides need to worry).

I would ask that you please be patient with me on my turn around times for images, albums, etc. My computer and software were destroyed in the fire as well. I’m doing my best to make arrangements until I can replace what was lost.

We also want to thank everyone who has been helping us. Our friends and family have been amazing and I don’t know where we would be without you right now! I’ll do my best to keep you all updated on our situation as things progress.
