Preparing for Your Maternity Session
September 9, 2010
It has become fairly common for moms-to-be to get photos of their expecting bellies. Maternity photos can range from a sweet and simple portrait of the growing family or they can be artistic, dramatic, and sensual. However you chose to be photographed, the end result will be a beautiful piece of art that will celebrate this miraculous time in your life. Here are just a few tips for preparing for your maternity session.
1. Pick the Right Time for your Session. Book your session about 4 weeks before your due date (or 36 weeks along). This gives you a nice little baby bump for the photos without worry of going into labor before your session arrives.
2. Be sure to eat something before the session. The last thing we want is for you to feel uncomfortable and making sure to grab a bite to eat will help prevent any discomfort from hunger.
3. Avoid wearing tight clothing. If you are doing any photos that show skin, it is best to wear looser clothes before your session. Sometimes tighter clothes can leave elastic marks on your skin that are less than flattering in your photos.
4. Go bra-less. If it is not too uncomfortable, leave your bra off for at least an hour before the start of your session. If this is too uncomfortable any strap marks can be eliminated during processing; your comfort is the most important thing.
5. Stick to plain clothing. Your maternity photos are supposed to emphasize your beautiful shape. If you wear clothes with busy patterns – it will distract from you in your pictures. Many photographers will recommend you wear solid colors and often times will specifically request black or white tops.
6. Don’t let stretch marks stop you. If you really wanted belly pictures but don’t want to show off your stretch marks, don’t let that stop you from getting them. Stretch marks can be easily edited out after your session, and you’ll get those sweet bare baby belly pictures you wanted.
7. Don’t stress. You are beautiful and that little life inside you is amazing and wonderful. The beauty of this special time in your life will come across in your pictures making you look absolutely radiant.
By following these simple tips, you should go into your maternity session feeling relaxed, confident, and beautiful. You will walk away from your session with wonderful images that capture the beauty and happiness of your growing your family.
