Pieces of Me: Yummy Smells!
I’ve been trying to share little bits and pieces of my life these days. Things that make me happy, sad, quirky things too. Posting truths online feels odd to me. There’s so much that’s lost without the one-on-one contact of talking to a person. When you’re having a real conversation with someone, so much can be said without any words actually being uttered. Through tone, body language and other subtle cues you can really have more than one conversation going on at once (and you might not even know it). But since this is my little place on the internet to share little things about me with all of you – I’m pushing myself to break out of that comfort zone (in baby steps) and share some pieces here and there. So today I thought I’d share with you my love of smells! Okay – so yes – that may sound weird. I’m not saying I run around sniffing things. But I do enjoy going to the candle aisle at Target and sampling a bunch of different candles, inhaling the fruity, sweet, subtle or strong scents. 😉 And sometimes I’ll find a smell that I love so much I just have to get it… especially if it’s on sale. So needless to say I’ve acquired quite the collection. I actually consider it kind of a luxury. Some girls like their manicures or pedicures… I like candles and wax melts and stuff that smells heavenly. It all started with this:
This Choose Happiness scent at Target is my absolute favorite!!! I love the message and the the lemony-lime goodness that seeps into my house when I open the bottle of oil or light the candle. I love this smell so much I currently have it in a candle and I have a stock of it as an oil because I have this fear that Target will quit carrying it and I won’t be able to find it. So my love for the Happiness scent started my love for lemon fragrances in general and thus… this collection occurred:
Now granted, these are not all lemon scented but at least six of these are lemon, one is orange, two are apple, and one is a tropical fruit medley. This is actually most of the candles I currently own and I’ve told myself I can’t buy anymore until this collection dwindles. Since the fire I’m really focusing on simplicity – I don’t want to have more things than we need. But I have to admit being able to walk to my candle drawer and sneak a sniff of one of these bad boys really makes me happy. It’s amazing how different smells can change your mood!
And then… then my friend Hannah, who owns Willow Branch Boutique off of Oakland Avenue in Decatur, started getting in these amazing winter themed wax melts and candles over Christmas and Holy Cow! They are amazing!!! The literally smell so good that you kind of want to eat them… because they smell like desserts! Gah! The Nostalgic Goodness, Christmas on the Farm, and Lemon Drop Cookies are my absolute favorites! Now she’s got some lovely spring floral scented ones that are equally amazing. (P.S. I got my wax melt warmer there too and I LOVE it!)
So there’s a little glimpse into another one of my weird obsessions. Now you know that I love good smelling things and have probably way too many candles haha. What are some simple luxuries you enjoy?
