One Month After…

November 11, 2011

So yesterday officially marked one month since the fire that destroyed our home. And while it often feels as though no progress has been made and that we are no closer to life resuming it’s normal pattern – when we take the time to step back and look at the big picture – we are slowly but surely moving forward.

We’re making progress on our belonging list for the insurance company and we’ve got their approval to rebuild. So yes – we are making progress even if it doesn’t seem like it.

I’ve never been the sort to take anything for granted, but I’ll admit I’ve felt significantly more grateful since this has all happened. And I felt compelled to take part in the “30 Days of Thankfullness” posts on Facebook. I post them on my personal and fan page – so if you’re curious what all I’m thankful for – hop on over and check it out!

Ryan and I have always adored each other. But when you have nothing else to distract you – you’re constantly reminded of how blessed you are to have the other person in your life. We are reminded of how much we rely on each other for support. When he’s having a rough day – I’m there to help out how I can and vice-versa. If anything – this has only reminded us of how much we love one another.

And it’s also reminded us that things… are just things. They are easily replaced and honestly – not all that important. Books and toys and blankets and pillows and furniture – they aren’t NECESSARY. I can live a full and happy life without those things. Most of them are only important due to a sentimental attachment and not because  I NEED them to get by.

There’s a good chance we won’t be able to replace everything we had. Obviously certain photos, my love letters, my yearbooks, my bridal bouquet with my mom’s blue bird of happiness in it, my grandmother’s hope chest – those can’t be replaced. The people who have been a part of our lives, who given us those things – they are much more important and wonderful and cherished than the objects they gave us ever could have been.

So we’re still doing good and doing our best to keep things moving  along. I’ll try to post little updates here and there when I can. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and that I see you back here on Monday! (you’ll want to stop by to see Michael and Carrie’s sneak peek!) 🙂
