I had the great honor of being invited to my best friend’s baby shower this past weekend. I can be honest and admit that over the past seven years I’ve attended very few baby showers. With our struggle to have children they were just too difficult for me… they hurt too much. So rather than detract from what should be focused on the mother-to-be, I just avoided them. But this shower was different. It was different because it was for one of the most special people in my life and the woman I claim as my chosen sister.

Erin’s sister, Hilary, was the wonderful person who threw this shower for her at her beautiful home in Mahomet. It was a lovely fall afternoon and a tight-knit group of women gathered to celebrate this wonderful woman as she enters her new journey into motherhood. As per usual, the snacks and food were delicious and Hilary was an amazing hostess to all of the guests. She chose such an adorable theme too – “You are my sunshine”. She had a fun little game of guess the M&Ms in the bottle, an “Are You My Mother?” book as the guest book to sign, and a fun little card to leave advice and wishes for the mother to be. She even had amazing cupcakes from my favorite baker (Melissa) and some really tasty lemon cake pops.

I feel blessed to be so integrated into Erin’s life. I feel so close to not only her and her family but her in-laws as well as her friends too. To be included in this day and share in this joy with them, chatting and catching up was a real treat! I feel like I’ve been through a lot with Erin over the past several years and I’ve seen her accomplishments, her struggles, and we’ve talked about probably everything under the sun. So to see her so incredibly happy on Saturday just melted my heart. This is what I’ve always wanted for her – abundant joy. And as I watched her open these gifts for her little man, I got to see her happiness all over her face. To me – that was the best part of the day.
