Do you know what the PPA is? The PPA (the Professional Photographers of America) is an organization that works to help the aspiring and professional photographer to improve themselves, their craft, and their business. They sponsor events and competitions and provide links to educational opportunities as well. I’m sure you’ve heard of Master Photographers like DR Roberts, but I bet you don’t know how he acquired this title – it’s through the merit system provided through the PPA. A photographer who is  a PPA member can earn merits by attending seminars, workshops, and competing in competitions.

The sad truth is the nearest PPA affiliate to our area is 3 hours away. There’s a chapter in the Chicago area and one down south, which makes it really hard to attend meetings regularly. So when Sarah informed me she was interested in starting up a local affiliate I jumped at the chance to help! There are several requirements in place for us to be an official affiliate so at this time we are simply a group of local photographers meeting to work to improve ourselves and the photography community in our area. Once we have a enough attendees on a regular basis we’ll be moving to make this group an official  PPA affiliate.

I’m super excited about all the topics, projects, and plans we have set up for this group next year and look forward to watching this group and the photographers who are a part of it grow and evolve! Here’s a little peek at our past two meetings 🙂
