Anticipating a Year of Greatness…

February 22, 2012

After everything that happened last year…. I have felt more than once that this year is our year:  that things can only go up and great things are going to happen. But I also believe that I have to meet greatness halfway, and that’s what I’m trying to do this year.

For the past almost four years, I’ve lived, ate, and breathed photography and work… and honestly I still do. But I’m trying my darnedest to learn balance. This year I want to find that middle ground between working all the time and letting go of it completely to enjoy time with my family. Although Ryan and I don’t have kids yet, I absolutely look forward to the day when we do and I want to know that when we have little ones I’m going to be able to still run this business and give them the time and attention they need.

Another reason for me to find this middle ground is so that I can take better care of myself. When I say that photography consumed my life these past few years – I’m not joking. I make it such a priority to provide my clients with the absolute best customer service  that I often don’t leave time for myself to get out and get some exercise or cook a healthy meal. But that’s already been changing this year and I’m excited about the prospect of finally getting myself back in shape again.

Working Out

I’m also taking some time to work on my creative and artistic side. I’ve managed to get my hands on several books I’m very excited about. And I’m already starting to put them to use. One of these books in particular is called The Artist’s Way. I’ve really been enjoying this book. It’s set up to be like a course with homework assignments and things you’re supposed to do each week. I’m sure some people would find it a little hokey, but I love the idea of unlocking more of your creative side and really figuring yourself out a little more. But I liked school and homework so this is right up my alley. 🙂

Of course, I’m immensely looking forward to having my own home again! I can’t even begin to express how incredibly anxious I am for progress to be made on the construction of our house. The most excited I’ve felt during all this is when we got our official blue print for the house a few weeks ago! It was so nice to have something tangible in our hands that we could hold and look at and actually see the future a little more clearly.

But outside of that excitement – the weather is slowing us down. With all the dampness we’ve had the past few weeks – very little progress has been able to be made. Right now we’re waiting for the basement floor to get poured, but we need several dry days in a row before they’ll be able to pour it. (And we had rain again yesterday so it’s not looking great for them to get anything done this week.) I’ll be honest – I’m not a patient person to begin with so this little life experience is definitely a lesson in patience for me. But we’d definitely appreciate prayers for dry weather!

So yup! I’ve got big dreams for this year, and I know they’re going to take a lot of work, but I think I’m up for the challenge! I’m just really excited for what this year is going to hold for us and for you! I hope you all are having an awesome Wednesday, and I’ll see you back here on Friday!
