A Little Life Update

December 14, 2011

Things have been so busy the past couple weeks… who am I kidding – the past couple months!

I still haven’t really had a meltdown over the house fire yet – so I’m kind of thinking there isn’t going to be one. … huh… guess I handle stress and loss better than I thought. (haha) They started demolition a couple weeks ago and got the last of the concrete out of the hole in the ground that was once our basement late last week.

So now I’m just praying for good weather! The sooner they can get the new concrete basement walls and floor poured – the sooner they can put up the walls – the quicker we’ll have a home again. So I’m hoping and praying that everything goes smoothly and we stay on track!

It seems strange to me still that I will no longer be able to walk into the house Ryan and I had called our home. There are no stairs leading up to a door that opens into my living room. Not even into the charred remains of my living room. There’s no hope of finding any lost trinkets now that the whole building has been demolished. And this picture:

Is the last picture I’ll ever have of our home with one of us in it. I’m sad about it, but not the kind of sad that makes me cry… I’m more just in disbelief. I’m disconnected from it. At least – that’s what I think anyway. I don’t have any better explanation.

We did make the front page news though and I finally got a copy of the paper with our fiery house on the cover

In the grand scheme of things – we’ll probably be better off. We’ll have a brand new house on our plot of landing. A house that we’ll be able to live in for longer, have a family in, grow old in. And that’s a lovely thought. We always thought it would be fun to build our own home – although this isn’t quite the way we planned it and we’re not getting to build it quite the way we like. But we’re moving on and improving.

On a lighter note – I’m almost ready for Christmas! I’ve had all the gifts purchased since the week before Thanksgiving. (I hate shopping after Turkey Day – too many crazy shoppers!) So now I’m just in the gift wrapping phase which is always fun!

Well I hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday! See you soon!
