Last week I was lucky enough to get to do another shoot for Healthy Cells Magazine, and this time it was for someone I was familiar with – Dr. Thomas Rohde. Before I got married and moved to Sullivan, I was a patient at Dr. Rohde’s office, Renew Total Body Wellness Center. At the time he was still connected to DMH, but he has now branched out into new avenues of medicine that are very exciting and a type of medicine I would prefer myself. It’s called Metabolic or Functional Medicine, which includes nutritional, homeopathic, herbal, environmental, orthomolecular, anti-aging, holistic, functional, and preventive medicine all rolled into one.

So what exactly does all of that mean? Basically, your body’s functions are run by the energy created by your metabolism. Any number of factors can occur that can alter your metabolism’s natural balance. Unlike mainstream doctors in our country who simply prescribe medicines that mask your symptoms – Dr. Rohde identifies where those imbalances are and helps you naturally restore balance to your systems through readjusting the immune system, or encouraging the release of personal stress, and then working to prevent future recurrence of the problem.

I find it all really very fascinating! I’ve always been partial to more homeopathic remedies than medicine. It was fun seeing how well Dr. Rohde is doing. That more people are taking an interest in his new approach and how much his staff has grown over the past few years.
