Silas Martin | Decatur Christian School | Pediatric Cancer
I’m so humbled and honored to share these images with you today. I was contacted by a wonderful young woman about helping this family document Silas with some of his friends. Silas is a sophomore at Decatur Christian here in town, and he was diagnosed with brain cancer last year. He is such a strong young man. He just finished his last round of radiation last week and he’ll bee doing about a years worth of chemo.
It was such a blessing to have met this family. They have so much faith, such positivity, and Silas is just magnetic. You can tell people are just drawn to him. So many people are pulling for this young man to beat this and make a full recovery. His school has been raising money to help cover the cost of his treatments. They do jeans days on Fridays, I think, and all of the money raised goes to Silas. The day I was at his house was actually DCS’s dance, and many of his classmates stopped by the house to visit him before the dance and get their dance photos with him. Even the local police department raised money during No-Shave-November. And his mom’s co-workers have shared their vacation days with her so that she can go with him to St. Louis for his treatments.
I feel truly blessed and humbled to have gotten to meet this family and help document this time Silas had seeing his friends at home. I’m keeping an eyes on updates for this guy and saying prayers and looking forward to seeing him grow up to become a video game designer/tester. I can’t even begin to tell you how much this whole family touched me. Here’s just a little glimpse into the Martin family’s home.
