The Embodiment of Love

April 8, 2013

It has been a hard week and a half or so for our family. We’ve spent a great deal of time with family in keeping Ryan’s grandmother comfortable, helping as we can, and saying our goodbyes to one of the sweetest, most loving people I know.

I have been blessed to be a part of the Gagnon family for nearly a decade now. From the very first Easter that I met Ryan’s extended family and started to meet all the uncles and aunts and cousins, Grandma and Grandpa Gagnon immediately welcomed me as one of their own grandkids. As someone who has lost both her grandpas and one grandma already, it was a wonderful feeling to have gained two more grandparents so close to home, and two grandparents who always make me feel incredibly loved.

Grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years back and fought it valiantly and with such grace. She lit up every room with her smile and her sweet conversations, and she was hands down one of the kindest people I have ever known! If you wanted to know how much she loved and how much she was loved, you need only walk through the halls of her house this past week and especially on Saturday night. The house was filled with her sons, daughters, and grandkids galore… all there to shower her with love and attention and to help as needed. Everyone enjoying each others company and sharing stories, taking turns spending time with grandma.

Letting go of my maiden name was a hard thing for me to do as I am incredibly proud of my family and heritage. Mrs. Gagnon always felt weird to me. But this week I am reminded that I share Ruby’s title and name and if I can be a quarter as sweet, loving, nurturing, Christian, compassionate, forgiving and wonderful a woman, mother, and wife as she was… well let’s just say that I will proud of myself and only hope that I might do her justice.

I know Grandma is looking down on us all from heaven, sending us her warm hugs and sweet smiles. She is someone who will be sorely missed by all the many, many people her kindness and loving heart touched.

As we prepare for the upcoming services this week, our office will be closed until April 15th. Please do feel free to leave messages or emails and we will return your call and email as quickly as we can.

I hope you all are having a great Monday and I will see you next week.
