My Furry Family
I thought today I’d post a little insight into our family. If you follow me on Instagram (stephanie_at_gtm) or Twitter (@GreenTreeMedia), you may have seen me post some photos of the newest addition to our family. If you know me at all you know that I’m a huge animal lover and dogs in particular have a special place in my heart. So when my best friend was telling me that she didn’t think she could afford to keep all her doggies post divorce, I talked to my hubby and we looked at our finances and both agreed that we could definitely add another fur baby to our family.
It’s been about six weeks ago now that I brought sweet miss Lucy home with me. She curled up on the passenger seat and slept the whole way home… made my heart melt! My one concern with bringing home a new dog was how Kit, my first puppy, would react.
Kit is kind of a sheltered pooch. We keep him home a lot and we were never good at getting him out and socializing him with other dogs. He’s just so strong and he gets so worked up! He’s hard to control and keep calm around new people. About the only socializing he’s done is usually once a summer – we watch my parent’s dog, Ginger, for 3-5 days. And honestly – he spends most of that time avoiding her and looking quite concerned by her presence.
The first two to three weeks were fun. Lucy was used to her pack of 3 and she desperately wanted to be buddies with Kit. (She still does! She follows Kit all over the yard when we let them outside!) And of course Kit didn’t know what to make of this new four legged creature! The running joke was that Kit thinks he’s people and he’s offended by the presence of a dog because it serves as a constant reminder that he is not, in fact, people. Haha
Well now that Lucy’s been here a while he’s a little less tense around her. Don’t get me wrong – he still doesn’t get all buddy buddy with her. They have their own beds even. And if you’re petting Kit and Lucy starts to come over – he’ll take off. … So obviously – we’re still working on that. But I thought I’d introduce you to our newest pups and the odd little pairing of pups we have 😉
P.S. Please excuse my messy house! With the busy season upon us – cleaning has sadly gotten pushed to the back burner. It also doesn’t help we still need some more storage furniture around the house. But slowly, surely – we’re getting there. 🙂
