Scherer-Meek Wedding | Decatur, IL | Wedding Photography
This past weekend I was lucky enough to take pictures for an incredibly sweet couple, Sara & John. I couldn’t have started off the new year with a more perfect wedding. I’ve known the Scherer family since I was a little bitty thing, and it was so exciting and just down-right wonderful to be able to help them capture such a special day.
You may remember me taking Sara & John’s engagement photos back in September last year. (You can view them here.) If you do, you’ll also remember how sweet, gorgeous, and super photogenic they are – and that hasn’t changed in the slightest! Sara looked absolutely gorgeous in her wedding dress! I loved her poofy, tulle princess skirt! And John looked very handsome all done up in his tux. And when they saw each other for their First Look, the happiness and love they feel for each other was plainly visible on their faces. 🙂
Sara & John had a beautiful candle lit ceremony in the evening at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Decatur. This was the first time I had done a candle lit wedding so it was a fun new challenge for me, and created a really lovely mood to some of the photos. Once the ceremony was over, we headed over to the Hickory Point Golf Course for the reception, and the party really began. Both the bride and groom’s families were super friendly and fun. Ryan and I felt like part of the group the whole day and had a blast just enjoying the awesome company. Enough of my ramblings – here’s Sara & John’s sneak peek. 🙂
Time for the First Look. This is Ryan’s view…
I love this picture Ryan snagged of the kids while I was taking pictures of Sara & John…
Everyone was so awesome braving the cold to get a couple quick pics outside in the snow…
Sara….I love your skirt! And that smile! You just look so darn cute in this pic!
Have you seen a cuter groom’s cake? Cuz I haven’t!
Here’s a quick little Q&A from the bride after the wedding. 🙂
• Where did you find your wedding dress & what brand/style is it?
Candice’s Bridal, Mori Lee style #6508 (http://www.morilee.com/bridals/voyage/6508)
• What about your bridesmaids dresses?
They came from David’s Bridal and were color: Lapis. I let them all chose their own style, but asked for them to be long.
• Who made John’s groom’s cake? (It was SO cute!)
That was one of my favorite things. Cafe Moxo in Springfield has delicious lunch and deserts and they have a girl there that makes all kinds of cool cakes. I go there all the time for lunch. The cost was very reasonable too $54.
• Is there anyone you want me to give credit to in the post (florist, hair-stylist, etc)?
Oh my…so many people! My cousin, Tonya, for her awesome hairstyling, family friend Linda Mell on making a delicious and beautifulwedding cake and Cafe Moxo for the cubbie cake.
• What was the most memorable part of your day?
The most memorable part of my day was going outside in the freezing cold to take a few quick shots with John and the bridal party. When we picked this day I secretly hoped there would be just a bit of snow on the ground for cool pictures and it turned out just that way. Everyone was so willing to go along with it too even though it was FREEZING! 🙂
• What was your favorite detail?
For sure my purple sash with my Grandma’s broach!! I thought it gave my dress a little flavor.
• Any advice for future brides/grooms?
I will pass on some advice I got: Make sure not to sweat the small stuff. Mistakes will definately happen and there’s nothing you can do about it, except let it roll off your shoulders and enjoy the moment. We had some mistakes and I actually loved them because it made for some good stories afterwards.
• Funniest memory from your wedding day?
Hmm…either the ring bearer having an accident right before we walked down the aisle or my sisters’ speech.
• If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
As crazy as this sounds…no. I can’t believe how awesome of a night it was for John and I and we loved having so much of our family involved in the preparations.
• Any honeymoon plans?
We’re planning on going somewhere this summer. John wants to go to San Fransisco to see a 49’ers game, but we’re also thinking of going out of the country since neither of us have ever been before.
Sara & John – Thank you so much for including me and Ryan in your wedding day! We had a blast spending time with you and your families and snapping away on our cameras throughout the day. We wish you both many years of married bliss!
