So I’ve done What to Wear posts for senior guys and senior gals. I’ve done what to wear posts for families at different times of the years. I’ve done different ways to take a single item and create different looks. But I haven’t ever really talked about what to wear for your newborn session. So today I thought I’d take a few minutes to talk about just that!

So my number one tip… WEAR SOMETHING NEUTRAL AND SIMPLE. Your newborn portraits should be about your family and your newest little addition! Using simple, neutral colors allows all the attention to be on you! So let’s look at some specific examples to give you a feel for what different options may look like

WHITE/OFF WHITE
This is the most popular and common route to go! It’s actually what my hubby and I did with our precious little girl too. White is obviously the most neutral color you can do and it provides you with a nice light, bright option – especially if you’re shooting on a grey or light neutral backdrop.

GREY
Grey would be the next option for a neutral top. If white feels too stark or bright to you – grey is a great option too. It’s simple and still allows your family to shine! And it can work with a lot of different backdrop options.

BLACK
It may not be as popular of an option – but black is also a favorite of mine. So one reason I love black tops is that our eyes are drawn to the brightest spot of an image. Black tops can allow you to pop of the background and draw even more attention to your families beautiful faces which is what family portraits are all about!

COLORS
Of course, you absolutely can always wear color too! In this instance we always encourage you to follow our standard family photo suggestions of choosing some basic color options and building off of those. Choose a palette that makes sense for you and your family whether thats colors that match your home or just your favorite colors.
